Step 1: Informal chat

Your fertility journey is unique and it starts with us understanding you and your fertility needs. Whether you are approaching us because you know you need fertility treatment or you would like to have some tests carried out to check your fertility status and reproductive health, we will usually start with an informal call to find out about you and how we can help.

Step 2: Consultation and Tests

Once the right starting point has been identified for you, we will either see you for a New Patient Consultation or you will have a package of fertility tests done, which includes a shorter consultation to discuss the results of these tests. In both of these cases the purpose is for the clinician to get a detailed understanding of your fertility health and presenting management options for your specific needs. If you are a couple then both of you will be involved right from the start.

A prospective mother will need to have blood tests performed (including egg reserve count) as well as a diagnostic pelvic scan, and a prospective father will need to have a semen analysis performed in a specialist laboratory. The tests required in your particular situation will be identified and explained to you.

Blood Test and Scan Assessment
Many women approach us to have their egg reserve checked, which can be for a range of reasons. The most commonly used blood test to check this is an AMH blood test, which can give an estimate of how many eggs you have. This can be undertaken at any time of your cycle. Your clinician will discuss the results of these tests with you and discuss the implications of these results.
Egg reserve only talks about egg numbers, not egg quality. It is important to have your egg reserve tested by a clinic who can discuss the results in depth with you and explain your fertility options based on your personal circumstances.

We can also evaluate your ovarian reserve by undertaking a scan and measuring egg sacs that are around 2-9mm in size, which will give us an estimate of your overall ovarian pool (egg numbers). This is usually used in conjunction with the AMH blood test result to give an accurate estimate of your reserve to advise you appropriately.

Step 3: Your personalised treatment plan

After a detailed medical history has been taken and your fertility health tests have been completed you may need a follow-up consultation to formulate your personalised treatment plan. The consultant will explain why they think you have had difficulty conceiving, and will discuss the best treatment options available for your personal circumstances. They will explain the chances of success with each option, costs of treatment and a provisional timeline.
Together, you will discuss your options and be in a position to make an informed choice to move forward.
